Have you tried vegetarian keema or vegetables mash? You will love it if you like pav bhaji (Indian street food).

So the other day I was in mood to eat Pav Bhaji but I didn’t have that many vegetables in my fridge so I thought why not make something similar to bhaji but call it Veg Keema. This was the first time I made this and my god it was so delicious and my husband absolutely loved it. I served it with Naan and Pav (bread rolls) and it tasted really good with both of them.

This is a very quick recipe if you have time constraint and want to make something quick yet delicious, do give recipe a try. I made this in half butter and half oil but you can skip butter if you are watching your weight. Also to make it more special I added some cream, you can replace it to milk or coconut cream.

So this is how you make this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 200 g paneer grated
  • 1.5 cups fresh or frozen defrosted green peas
  • 2 onions finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  • 2 or to taste green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger and garlic paste
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 or to taste red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp pav bhaji masala
  • ½ tsp dry mango powder (Amchoor powder)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp cream
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Fresh coriander for garnishing
  • ½ cup water

Instructions:

Heat 1 tsp butter and oil together, add in the onions. Sauté for 3-4 minutes, add in the ginger, garlic paste and chillies and continue to sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Add in the tomatoes, salt, dry mango powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and pav bhaji masala and sauté till the water dries out and oil start to float.

Now add in the mashed potatoes, green peas and some water, stir well. Cook for 5 minutes.

Add in the paneer, mix it well and add rest of the water. Add cream and simmer for just 5 minutes.

Add in the rest of the butter. Garnish with coriander.

Serve hot with naan or pav.

Enjoy!
